When talking about graphics you distinguish between bit map pictures
and vector graphics. Bit map pictures (or raster pictures) consist
of patterns of pixels (raster) which have a definite place and
colour value.
Vector graphics, on the contrary, consist of mathematic descriptions
of
lines and forms which describe what the graphics look like.
This means that vector graphics can be printed in a very high
quality without any scary pixel effects that can be seen when
printing bit map pictures. Furthermore, vector graphics are scalable
and it is possible to zoom in on any part of the graphics without
reducing the quality.
